Event Description

For the first time, the decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector (H&C) is addressed by EU legislation, as in the proposed recast of the Renewable Energy Directive. While H&C represents 50% of the final energy consumption in the EU, heating buildings and households still is a major challenge today – with an overall lack of information on the subject.

This event, organised by the European Biomass Association (AEBIOM), in collaboration with the European Power Plant Suppliers Association (EPPSA) and the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), will shed light on how to bring concrete solutions – with best-practice examples – for the decarbonisation of the H&C sector through district heating.

Renewable district heating (DH) is an enabling technology that allows for a greater utilisation of renewables in the heating sector. This event will explore not only the environmental benefits of such switches, but plenty of energy security, economic growth and job market advantages too.
