Description

CPL has been manufacturing smokeless coal since the 1940s, but since then, the company has grown to encompass a range of industries, from charcoal and activated carbon, to gardening and renewable energy. Their wealth of industry knowledge, combined with enormous manufacturing capabilities and a team of expert staff has helped to position CPL at the forefront of the European solid fuel industry. From a unique UK based manufacturing plant, CPL can produce around 300,000 tonnes of solid fuel per year. Manufacturing 21 different solid fuels, predominantly smokeless, CPL is the UK’s largest coal merchant and wholesaler, selling to over 60,000 end users together with around 15 wholesalers, 400 merchants and 2,000 retailers. CPL also maintains a successful European export business into major markets in France, Germany and Ireland. CPL's established range of market leading brands and broad product range cover all price points and address the increasingly important market for renewable fuels including wood logs, wood pellets and renewable content briquettes. Covering both England and Wales, CPL make over one million deliveries to around 100,000 customer locations a year, via its network of over 25 depots and a modern fleet of delivery vehicles. CPL has strong established relationships with leading wholesalers, merchants, retailers and end-users in the UK, handling over 50% of the UK coal based solid fuel market. The UK market for solid fuel is currently around 800,000 tonnes a year, with market trends impacted by consumers' desire to go green, the demand for multi-fuel stoves and the implementation of the Renewable Heat Incentive.
